EXPLANATION TEXT
Hello, welcome back everyone! How are you? I hope you're doing fine. A couple days ago i already explained to you about explanation text. Today, i will make a conclusion about this chapter.
Explanation is a text which tells processes relating to forming of natural, social, scientific and cultural phenomena. Explanation text is to say ‘why’ and ‘how’ of the forming of the phenomena.
Generic Structure
– General statement
General statement; stating the phenomenon issues which are to be explained.
– Sequenced of explanation
Sequenced explanation; stating a series of steps which explain the phenomena.
Language Features
In an explanation text, there are linguistic features as below :
– Using simple present tense
– Using abstract noun (no visible noun)
– Using Passive voice
– Using Action verbs
– Containing explanation of the process
Language Rules
- The discussion on the topic of this text focuses more on things that are general and non-human (not human participants). Examples include earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, floods, storms and much more.
- Scientific terms must be used in writing.
- The passive voice must be used in writing.
- Material verbs and relational verbs are the most commonly used in writing.
- Making this text generally uses conjunctions of time and causality. Examples like before, first, if, then and many more.
- The purpose of writing an explanation text is to provide the truth that something that is causally explained actually happened.
